Is Exercise Really A Weight Loss Superstar?

These days it seems that almost everywhere in the news there are claims about the effectiveness of exercise for weight loss. Apparently, it is not enough to simply diet to get the results that we are looking for. Some authorities even state that it is imperative to exercise if you are going to lose weight and keep it off permanently.

Just how does exercise help us win the battle against fat you ask? For starters, your metabolism gets a kickstart from exercise that can last up to several hours helping you to shed pounds more quickly. By revving up your metabolism, you burn more calories thereby speeding up the entire weight loss process.

* A calorie is a unit of measurement used to show how much heat (energy) is found in any type of food. It is simple to maintain your current weight if you keep your intake of calories equal to the number of
calories you need to function. So it stands to reason that if you either burn more calories (exercise more) or eat fewer calories, or do a combination of both, you will lose weight .

When you are losing weight, you will be pleasantly surprised by the overall look of tightening and toning that exercise will give you. Your clothes will start to fit differently (as in looser) and look better on you. The odd thing is that you might even gain some weight as muscle mass (that's what makes you look sleek and sexy) is actually heavier than fat.

Overweight people sometimes have other health challenges that have to be taken into account before they start exercising. Individuals suffering from various joint problems or injuries, may find it necessary to start slowly. Regardless of your state of health, it is still smart to talk to your doctor before you embark on any exercise program.

A good aerobic exercise plan should definitely be a part of anyone's weight loss program. Different results can be expected from different exercises, but they are all beneficial in one way or another for anyone trying to lose a few pounds (or more). Try to remember though, that you shouldn't be disappointed if you don't see amazing changes right off the bat - it does takes time to make these changes.

Walking is perhaps one of the simplest aerobic exercises that can be done by just about anyone regardless of their present physical condition. Swimming is another exercise that is easy on the joints. However, when it comes to weight loss, swimming is not very effective.

All forms of dancing are beneficial for the body. To use this strategy to get the most success with your weight loss program, choose one that involves a lot of movement across the floor, and make sure to work at it for a decent length of time.

Considered by many to be the optimum exercise to help you lose excess pounds, weight training/resistance training should play a huge role in your fitness program. You will notice your body starting to look toned and shapely fairly quickly. As an extra plus, you will become stronger, build more muscle, and so burn more calories helping you to lose weight faster.

Although exercise is not the silver bullet where weight loss is concerned, it might at least be considered the trigger. No matter what aerobic exercise you decide to participate in, working hard at it and for a sustained period of time will give you the best results. A properly balanced diet is critical to weight loss success, and when you combine it with a good physical activity program you are sure to get the results you are looking for.
